Set It Off Bring The House Down At Bogart’s In Cincinnati

Following the release of their self-titled album, Set It Off goes on a tour that shakes the ground in Cincinnati.

Set It Off is a band I’ve heard of for years. Their album Duality was one of the first albums I really fell in love with in my younger years. Plus, “Wolf in Sheep's Clothing” has been my go-to fuck you song for over a decade now. With a reborn version of the song on this album, it was one I was looking forward to hearing live, and it didn’t disappoint.

As mentioned before, this tour was in celebration of their most recent album, Set It Off. For this tour, they brought along some incredible artists. Autumn Kings started off the night and gave a lot of great energy. The sets were full of rock chords and catchy lyrics that had much of the audience dancing along, even if they were unfamiliar with the band. Even for the first opener, they had a lot of crowd interaction, which early set the stage for the rest of the night.

Following them, Vana was next. When I say my jaw dropped, I mean quite literally my jaw was on the floor. Vana walked out knot stage in a full black mask that was intricately done with lace detailing and one killer outfit. I instantly became obsessed with everything about her set. The vocals were absolutely incredible as well, with a range from bright and poppy to dark and screamy. Everything about her set was phenomenal, including the crowd interaction. She captivated the crowd and truly had everyone in that place headbanging or moshing along to her music.  Fame on Fire followed and after Vana’s set the crowd was ecstatic and ready to jump and mosh. Several mosh pits were opened during their set, and the fans were going crazy at the barricade.

Finally, after all three openers, the stage was warm, and the crowd was ready to throw down. And that they did. Set It Off exploded onto the stage, including elements like smoke to really emphasize the breakdowns. Playing classic hits and a lot fo songs off the new album, I found this was a perfect setlist for old fans like myself as well as new fans who love this new album. One thing I really loved was how they brought Vana back out to sing the female section of “Partners in Crime,” which the crowd loved and got several crowd surfers going for.

This show checked off two of my concert bucket list goals. One was to jump around in a mosh pit. Which I actually did twice. Once with a guy in a banana costume who was dubbed the “blegh-nana.” And another time after that. The second goal was a wall of death. When a band asks you to split the crowd, you do as you’re told. The shallow room was split down the middle, and I was right in front of my side. As the beat dropped, we all ran back together, and it was honestly incredible.

If you like hard rock mixed with an incredible amount of “fuck-you” energy, I cannot recommend going to a Set It Off show enough. I had such a blast, and it was so cathartic getting to scream the lyrics I had memorized over a decade ago to a new rhythm.
